Aesthetic ear surgery or OTOPLASTY is a surgical procedure for children and adults whose ears features do not follow the stablished patterns of beauty and proportion; the size and shape do not match the considered “normal” characteristics. This procedure is indicated for people who would like to improve the anatomy of the ear affected by asymmetries, excessive size and separation from the head, lack of definition, scars and trauma effects, etc. For many people these changes may bring about bullying by family members and peers, inferiority complex, shy personality as well as social and personal life privation with a limited human development.

The ear is placed in a more aesthetic position relative to the rest of the head; shape and proportion are finally balanced.
Self-esteem is unequivocally improved.
Limits all the negative psychological burden imposed by bullying if done during the early infancy (6 – 7 years).

It is an ambulatory surgery, done under sedation and local anesthesia.
It lasts 2 hours aprox.
An incision is made behing the ear in order to separate cartilage from skin and shape it in a desirable fashion. Special support is provided to external ear structures.
It is a merely aesthetic procedure, hearing is NOT affected.

Work / school activities can be resumed in 3 – 5 days.
It is advisable to wear a compressive band the following 4 weeks after the procedure.
You may restart physical activity in 4 – 6 weeks.
Definitive results can be appreciated between 2 – 3 months.
